Q: Do you offer classes not listed?
A: We can provide customized classes, but such instruction will not result in a certification. However, such instruction can help you gain the knowledge and/or skill you’re trying to learn. Please call or email us to discuss your goals and how we may be able to help you achieve them.
Q: I already know how to shoot; do I have to go through the live fire portion to get the course certification?
A: Yes. The certification is based on you successfully learning a body of knowledge and then demonstrating your mastery.
Q: I already know the material that’s taught in the classroom portion. Do I have to sit through it?
A: Yes, if you want to earn the course completion certification. This is a requirement of the organization that issues the certification for successful course completion.
Q: I’m familiar with handling a pistol. Can’t I just take the Personal Protection courses without going through Basic Pistol?
A: No, successful completion of the Basic Pistol course is a prerequisite for taking Personal Protection in the Home. Also, successful completion of Personal Protection in the Home is a prerequisite for taking Personal Protection Outside the Home. Each course builds on the knowledge gained in the previous course.
Q: Why do you have to approve me using my own pistol?
A: For safety reasons, we need to ensure your firearm is in good condition to use and that you can safely handle it. For example, the school firearms are 9mm semi-automatic handguns that fit most people’s hands. They are disassembled after each class, cleaned, inspected, lubricated, and re-assembled by a Glock-trained and certified armorer. For most classes where we provide the ammunition, we use name brand, full metal jacketed commercial ammunition.
Q: How old do I have to be to attend one of the pistol classes?
A: You must be at least 21 yers of age. Also, you must not be prohibited from possessing a handgun in the state of Maryland.
